Environmental Technology is one of the largest and most dynamic growth markets in the world and Australia’s recent change of federal government should provide a considerable boost to the industry locally. Symbolically, the new government’s first formal act was the ratification of the Kyoto protocol.

Furthermore, three major targets have been set:

To reduce Australia’s emissions by 60% on 2000 levels by 2050

Create an emissions trading scheme by 2010 to price carbon and cut emissions

Establish a 20% target for electricity generation from renewable energy by 2020

Meeting these targets will require substantial investments and the government has promised funds for initiatives and technologies to accelerate the process.

Australia’s fragile environment stands to suffer more from climate change than most countries. It has been experiencing a devastating drought it is threatened with the loss of its snowfields –(a vital water source for the food bowl of Australia) and the potential devastation of the Great Barrier Reef. Australia also possesses an abundance of renewable energy sources including solar, wind, tidal and wave, geothermal and hydro.
